Lake Chiemsee, also known as the “Bavarian sea”, is the largest lake in Bavaria, measuring 79.9 km2. Either in summer or during winter, the area provides many options for different activities: swimming, sailing, surfing, boat rides, ice skating or just going for a walk – the opportunities are endless.
Escape daily routine for a day and visit the palace “Herrenchiemsee”. The palace, built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and modelled on Versailles, takes you back to bygone times. Enjoy a walk through the huge and stunning gardens of the island and visit the old monastery and “Chorherrenstift”, as well as the “Chiemseemaler” and constitution museum.
The monastery of “Frauenwörth” characterizes the island as a place of pilgrimage for the blessed Irmengard, who is the patron saint of the Chiemgau. The impressive abbey, the many craft stores and the stunning landscape makes this trip well worthwhile. Many people like to visit the island in the first two weekends in Advent for the famous Christmas market.
In addition to the Chiemsee Schifffahrt boat operator, the “Prienavera“ swimming pool is within walking distance of the hotel. With its unique architecture and beautiful view from the outdoor swimming pool to the “Herrenchiemsee” island, it is the perfect place for you to relax and enjoy. If you like it hot, “Prienavera” offers a sauna area as well as a beach at the lake.
The municipality of Prien, located at 523 m above sea level, is the biggest community around lake Chiemsee and within the region, inhabiting 10,000 people. The idyllic centre offers many shops and cafés, as well as cultural sights: the impressive church “Mariä Himmelfahrt“, the museum of local history and the gallery at the old town hall. The historic train “Chiemseebahn“ and the local bus, connect town and lake at regular intervals.
From the picturesque mountain village of Aschau you can visit the Chiemgau’s landmark, mountain “Kampenwand” , which is reachable by foot as well as by cablecar. Aschau also allows you to discover some more cultural highlights of the region, with the castle “Hohenaschau“ or the Priental museum well worth a visit.
Beautifully located at the “Inn’s“ river bending, discover Wasserburg with its medieval centre, small streets and plentiful shops and cafés. Along the way, the gorgeous town Amerang is worth a stop, offering interesting sights like the farmhouse museum and the famous automobile museum.
The town, famous for the German TV show “Rosenheim Cops“, has a lot to offer. Take a stroll around the pedestrian area, Max-Joseph-Platz, or watch an ice hockey match featuring the local team “Starbulls Rosenheim”. The city’s museum as well as the arts center “Lokschuppen“ offer many interesting exhibitions. If you like to experience a smaller version of the “Oktoberfest“, then visit the “Herbstfest“ in Rosenheim. The beer festival, called the “fifth sesason” by the locals, starts on the last weekend in August and lasts for 16 days.
Experience an unforgettable daytrip to Salzburg, just 45 minutes from our hotel. The city of Salzburg invites you to its charming old town centre, the fortress “Hohensalzburg”, Mozart’s birthplace and much more. It is the perfect location for fans of shopping as well as the arts. The “Salzburger Festspiele“, the festival for classical music, opera and theatre are a highlight around Easter as well as during the summer months with its play „Jedermann“ at the Domplatz.
